1st October 2019 – A day for Coffee, The Older Generation & Fire Safety? Let us explain
So, it’s the 1st October. What on earth could this day have in common with Coffee, The Older Generation and Fire Safety? Well, allow me to shed a little light.
Tuesday 1st October 2019 is known as International Coffee Day. A day celebrating the wonder that is coffee!
Now, I don’t need any incentive to down another cup of coffee, but how about if we combined this cup of coffee with a visit to an elderly neighbour or relative?
Tuesday 1st October 2019 is also The International Day of Older Persons or as we know it in the UK, ‘Older People’s Day’. A day to mark and publicly recognise the achievements and vital contributions that the older generation make to society.
So here are a few ways that you could celebrate International Coffee Day and Older People’s Day 2019 at the same time:
Grab a couple of take-away coffees (I hear Costa are giving away free coffee this week) and pop in to see an older relative, neighbour or colleague. Or just pop in and stick the kettle on yourself!
Ask them what their biggest achievement is – I guarantee it’ll make for an interesting conversation!
Celebrate and recognise their current contributions to society
Use the hashtags #olderpeoplesday and #internationalcoffeeday to raise awareness and challenge any negative attitudes and outdated stereotypes. Maybe even tell everyone the story of their biggest achievement.
I know what you’re thinking. Where does Fire Safety fit into all of this and why is a Fire and Security Company posting about coffee and the older generation?
Well, It’s Tuesday, also known in the Fire Industry as #TestItTuesday. So whilst you’re there, having a coffee and a chat with that special older person in your life:
Give that smoke alarm a quick push - make sure it works.
Test their carbon monoxide detector – with no odour to warn them, this alarm could save their life
Maybe even get them thinking about their best escape route should a fire ignite
